Stellar Close-up

47 Ursae Majoris

One of the earliest stars found to have a planet beyond our own system. Currently, that distant sun is known to have at least two gas giant worlds.

47 UMa is nominally estimated to be 8.7 billion years old. If there is a civilization in that system, it could be 4.2 billion years more mature than ours — a civilization that would have been ancient long before life started on Earth.
